In Thailand beside the beaches and night life, temples (mostly ancient and historic) can be seen throughout the country and Chiang Mai is no exception.
Elevated at 1,156m (3,520ft) above sea level on Suthep Mountain, overlooking the city from its forested backdrop, is one of Chiang Mai's most important landmarks, Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It dates from 1383 and has holy Buddha relics in its golden pagoda. To reach it you can climb a steep Naga staircase comprising around 300 steps; or ascend by way of the funicular cars. On reaching the top lies the temple copper-plated chedi topped by a five-tiered gold umbrella.. You get to enjoy the commanding view of the Chiang Mai basin before descending.
Within the city area there are more temples to visit such as the
Wat Phra Singh, Wat Suan Dok dating to the 14th century, Wat Chiang Man the oldest temple in Chiang Mai, Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Jedyot the seven spied square chedi design of this 15th century and Wat U-Mong. The Chiang Mai National Museum houses a collection of Lanna Thai works of art, ancient Buddha images, and war weapons.
The Night Bazaar is an extensive night market very popular with the locals as well as tourists. It consists of a great number of shops and street vendors, many of whom are hilltribes. The market offers a large variety of Thai and northern Thai goods, especially handicrafts and souvenirs, at attractive prices. This is a must for shopping-oriented visitors and bargain lovers.

Only one of the few places found in Thailand Fang Hot Springs cover an area of 10 acres amid a forest setting, with over 30 hot springs, some of which boil continuously with a strong smell of sulphur. According to believe if you bath with the hot spring water, it can cures a lot of diseases and wounds.
Being part of Doi Chiang Dao mountain, A visit to the well-known Chiang Dao cave complex which is about 10 km. long should appease your appetite. Inside the cave are enshrined Buddha images with local legend that this cave was once the home of a hermit for a thousand years.
