BUSAN - (Pusan)
The trip from Daegu to Busan (Pusan) was more on hilly roads and you can view the beautiful hillside with spring flowers that were starting to bloom. We did not actually spend the night over at Busan. Halfway between Daegu and Busan and a short distance off from Yeongsan there is a unique place, a small town down one of the valley .
Snuggle inside this small town is a unique hotel called Bugok Hawaii. We stayed here for the night and what is so unique about Bugok Hawaii. There is no special term for it but I would just said that it's all in one happening: fun, relaxing, entertaining, adventure - a small world by itself. Let's see what this Bugok Hawaii contains:
Built within the inside of the hotel block is the "Family World", you and your family can enjoy the following facilities:
- Stuffing Museum - rare animal stuffing, Birds, Reptiles, Fish and Shells, Memorial Stamps and Coins, Sculptures, Traditional Art objects and more...
- Indoor swimming pools - Four seasons swimming pool with spa for children and adults, one standard pool and children pool with water slide and high slider.
- Concert Hall with daily splendid and beautiful stage shows.
- Jungle Sauna Bath - Sulphur spa at 78 degrees centigrade which is said to be effective for chronic dermatitis, chronic arthritis, neuralgia, diabetes, chronic bronchities and the after effect of an external wound.
- Spania - An exotic outdoor spa formed with hot sulfur springs and natural enviroment.
- A banquet hall, lounge and a mammoth restaurant
Outside the hotel more fun and enjoyment awaits you.
- Outdoor swimming pool - international standard pool, children pool, 300m flowing water pool, high slide, high diving pool and waving pool.
- Adventure World - Botanical Garden and Zoo
- Festival World - Outdoor concert hall, Fountain Plaza and Byukchon Fountain.
- Hawaii Land - an amusement park, the like of disney world but in a smaller scale, but you still have more than twenty rides and attractions, such as sky jet, merry go round, 3D movie, roller skate rink, bumper car etc.
- Hawaii Park - sloping up a hill, you can walk, jog or run while viewing the several sculptures depicting the "Road of Hell" and "Road of Happiness". There are also the Great Hall of 10 King, Lawn Ground of Children, Lawn Ground of Challenge and Lawn Ground of Love.
A special and quite enviroment for a whole family vacation.
The next day we left for Busan airport for our flight to Jeju (Cheju) Island, but we still have some time to venture into Busan (Pusan City) to visit some places of interest.
Busan (Pusan) is Korea's second largest city with over 3 million people. Busan is near the sea front and it serves as the country's main port for international cargo, as well as passenger ferries to Japan and Jeju Island. The city is famous for its beaches and seafood. The fish market has huge selection of fresh seafood usually in the early morning. As a major port of call for international shipping, the harbor area has a thriving district that caters to the thousands of sailors and other visitors who pass through each year.
Transportation
At Busan Port (Chungand-dong, Chung-gu), you can catch a ferry to a number of domestic destinations (Ulsan, Yeosu, Cheju-do, and Inch'eon). There are also international passage to Japan and China.
The Express Bus Terminal (Tongnae-gu, Onch'on-dong) has express buses to most major destination in Korea. There are 2 inter-city bus terminals: Dongbu (east- Myeongryun-dong, Tongnae-gu) and Seobu (west- Kwaebeob-dong, Sasang-gu) which ply the less popular destinations.
Kimhae International Airport, located across the Nakdong River from Busan, serve the domestic flights to Seoul, Gwangju and Cheju-do,. There are also a few international flights to Japan.
Busan's subway line 1 and line 2 connect most of the major towns and attractions in the city.
Busan Train Station, located near the main port, going north to Seoul using the the Gyeongbu Line (KTX Railway Express) and going west along the south coast to Mokp'o using the Kyeongjeon Line.
Fine Beaches like the Gwangalli Beach, Namcheon-dong Beach and Haeundae Beach are very popular and during summer, visitors can enjoy various festivals and performances, including the Busan Sea Festival, traditional Korean games such as archery, ssirum (Korean traditional wrestling), and Yut. Others include singing and children's drawing, a market for Korean traditional food, Korean agricultural and special products, and cherry blossom pictures.
Fresh seafood are available and tourists and locals alike can choose from small stands to upscale restaurants for a good meal.
Yongdu-san Park
Yongdusan ("Dragon Head Hill") forms a major landmark rising approximately 50 meters above sea level. It offers a nice break from the concrete jungle of Korea's second largest city, and people of all ages can be found here, taking a stroll, seeing the sights, or feeding the multitudes of ever-present pigeons. Busan Tower sits atop Yongdusan rising 118 meters above sea level. The observation deck at the top commands a spectacular view of Busan and the surrounding sea.
Taejongdae Park
Taejongdae is a park of dense evergreen trees with several recreational facilities. Facilities include a seaside saltwater pool, shops for snacks and souvenirs, and sightseeing boats to view the fantastic rocky cliffs. Taejongdae is one of the famous tourist attractions in Busan, with its white lighthouse overlooking the green sea and seeing the famous 'Suicide Rock.'
Other places of interest are the Busan Aquarium, Annam Park, Geumgang Park, Stele of Isopkyo bridge and Dongnae Fortress Stele. I had not visited these places but gather the informations from hotel brochures. Also from hotel brochures are the informations about shopping. To name a few which are within the city vicinity are:
- Busanjin Market - Everything from Korean and Western clothes to bedding and lines can be found here. Many shops sell silk and other raw materials for making clothes.
- Gukje Market - This downtown market has grown into Busan's largest and you can find the best wholesale prices for clothing, silk, linen, curtains, bags, glasses, and many imported items. The stores are small and the vendor-filled alleys are narrow. Gukje Market spills out into the streets and continues into Kwangbok-dong & Namp'o-dong.
- Seomyeon - The recent opening of subway lines number 1 and 2 the moveming of City Hall to this area have helped Seomyeon to become the first commercial area in Busan. This area forms a total culture and commercial complex, co-existing with the already established traditional markets of Seomyeon and Bujeon and an underground shopping center adding the establishment of places for high class cultural life, such as Lotte Hoteln and several department stores.
- Seomyeon Ilbun Ga - Korea's new generation shopping style which has the latest fashions, hair dressing, miscellaneous goods, drinks, foods and amusement facilities.
- Texas Street - Texas Street is quite similar to Seoul Itaewon. Located near the harbor and Busan train station, many stores here cater to foreigners, selling blankets, clothes, hand bags, shoes, and leather goods.
From Busan airport we took a flight over to our last destination for this tour Jeju Island.
